5.3 Does the Sutton Cycle Forum have a future?

Response from Councillor Lewis (13 April 2023):

I believe that the Sutton Cycle Forum has been effective. I think it would be helpful to expand it out, and broaden its remit. Perhaps rename it the ‘Active Travel Forum’, and tie in with the Public Transport Liaison Group.

Last month Councillor Barry Lewis, Chair Environment and Sustainable Transport Committee, is on record as saying:

If the Mayor, if TfL, want to be serious about improving outer London transport, we need to start thinking about significant projects that we can work on.

13th July, at the London Assembly Outer London Transport meeting

In February we wrote to LBS Officers with Sutton Cycle Forum ideas for 2023, we had some immediate feedback from Ian Price… but nothing since.

The Cycle Forum has not met since Sutton Cycle Forum October 2022, where not much was discussed beyond the introduction of the Human Forest e-Bike hire scheme trial.

What those notes do show however are a number of open questions and actions which, at time of writing, are still outstanding. Consider too that references to funding and schemes in 23/24 are now current schemes, we will soon be entering 2023 Q4 & 2024 Q1.

Has there been any progress since TfL wrote their LIP letter from TfL to Sutton on 27th March 2023? Did LBS get applications submitted onto the TfL Portal by 31st May so funding could be released as quickly as possible? were they considered LTN 1/20 standard? and has funding been received allowing any schemes to progress or start?

Please do feel free to comment and get involved, especially if you work for the council.
