Ride London: join us on Sunday 28 May
Sunday 28 May sees RideLondon providing a once-a-year opportunity to enjoy the sights of central London on traffic-free roads with tens of thousands of others in a carnival-like atmosphere. There’ll be a feeder led-ride from Sutton, leaving Trinity Square, on the High Street near Waterstones, at 9am with a return ride from Parliament Square at 3pm. We look forward to seeing you!
Important news from Wallington South
In a potentially highly significant development, Wallington South ward councillors have reported that the council has proposed a trial to close off the railway bridge in Demesne Rd and Ross Parade at Clarendon Rd to vehicles. Those familiar with Demesne Road will be extremely aware how it is all too often highly dangerous for cyclists.
Should you cycle on it and/or live in the area, please email the councillors in support of the trial and show them that there is support for initiatives that positively impact cyclists in our borough. You can contact them using the email addresses below:
Sutton’s councillors: welcome to the class of 2022
Have you ever wondered how supportive your local councillors are of cycling? If so, there’s a good chance you’ll find the answer in this well-researched and detailed article. Spoiler alert: “…apathy and indifference is more likely to win the day over aspiration and delivery between now and the elections in 2026.” This is the first in a trilogy of articles and subsequent newsletters will feature the other two.
Rosehill Pump Track
Good news: the Rosehill Pump Track has opened! It’s reported to be highly popular and was packed during the Easter holidays. Ages range from toddlers to late teens/young adults with different routes so they don’t get in each other’s way. Improvements to cycle paths in the park are being mooted…so, fingers crossed.
Active Travel funding cuts: how you can help
As you may have seen, the Government has slashed Active Travel funding from £308 million to £100 million over the next two years. Sustrans (with others) are calling for the cuts to be reversed. Although not directly affecting London, why not add your name to the letter to Mark Harper, Secretary of State for Transport?
Sutton’s hidden LTN
With the weather becoming warmer and the days getting longer, now is an ideal time to take time out and explore what might well be Sutton’s biggest Low Traffic Neighbourhood and something of a hidden gem in a green and peaceful setting. All is revealed here!
